with a california approach
Our 32-acre Creston estate is located in the Paso Robles AVA, just minutes from the cities of Paso Robles, Atascadero and San Luis Obispo. Eleven and a half acres of the property are under vine and exclusively farmed by hand. We prune, thin, harvest, sort and process our vineyard and wines under the skilled hands and eyes of people who care deeply for the land, the vines and ultimately the final product. Our desire is to create wines that reflect our unique terroir with responsible and sustainable practices.
Our Italian varietals are grown in weathered calcareous shale and cobbled loam - a soil composition that creates a challenging environment for the vines - forcing a deep and vigorous root system that ultimately translates into an intricate intensity in our fruit. Located just 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean, Ella's Vineyard experiences an incredible temperature swing between the warm summer days and cool nights. This diurnal shift stimulates intense ripening while still allowing acid retention. The result is a complexity and balance in our wines unlike any other.
Winemakers Josh and Chris believe that less can be more. Rather than force or manipulate a style that isn't true to their varietals, they act as shepherds, gently caring for the wine from crush to bottle. Grapes are hand-sorted, fermented in small lots and then pressed into carefully selected oak barrels. The extended aging practice that follows gives a nod to old world traditions, producing deep, aromatic and complex wines that can be enjoyed today or aged for decades.
Typically a blend of Sangiovese and Primitivo, our Pecora is a representation of the very best of what we have to offer. It's a tribute to the hard work and love this vineyard and winery have been built on.
Our Lavoro is a Super Tuscan wine comprised of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In Italian, 'Lavoro' means 'Labor' and it takes a lot of hard work to produce this bold, aromatic blend.
Patience is key with this Nebbiolo blend. Aged in barrel for as long as 60 months, our Durata lives up to its namesake. Complex tannins pair beautifully with grilled meats and tomato sauces.
